What is Sound Therapy?
Sound therapy is a holistic therapy that uses sound vibrations to restore balance and harmony in the body and mind. Sound as therapy has been known for its therapeutic effect for many thousands of years and ancient cultures such as the Egyptians, Greeks, and Indigenous peoples have always used it in rituals and as medicine. In modern times, sound therapy has evolved through traditional practices and scientific research, and now we can explain the therapeutic effects with scientific terms.

Sound & Vibration Science
The human body is a highly effective conductor of sound vibrations. The reason for this is because the body is made up of approximately 60-70% water and sound travels more than four times faster in water than in air. When our bodies are exposed to sound, the vibrations don’t just touch the surface of our skin, it moves through each tissue, each organ and and every energy pathway, like waves through a fluid medium. The waves from the sound vibration entrain your brain into a meditative state and influence physiological processes such as brain waves, heart rate, breathing patterns and the nervous system activity in our body. Sound therapy helps the body to shift into a calmer and more regulated state. By using sound instruments such as singing bowls, gongs, tuning forks, or even the human voice, sound therapy helps guide the brain into deep relaxation and supports emotional and physical well-being.

Sound Therapy instruments that I may include in your therapy session:
Crystal Singing Bowls
Crystal singing bowls are made up of pure quartz crystals and emit a powerful and clear resonance. Each singing bowl are tuned to a specific frequency that resonates with a specific chakra and frequency in your body. As the crystal bowls are played, their ethereal tones interact directly with the water and crystalline structures in your body, calming your nervous system and gently shifting stagnant energy. The experience for the listener can be both physical, energetic and spiritual.

Tibetan Singing Bowls
Tibetan singing bowls are handmade from 5 to 7 different metals and emit rich and layered tones. Unlike crystal bowls, Tibetan singing bowls interact with your body’s subtle energy systems on many levels at the same time. The metal bowls produces layered frequencies and harmonics ranging from grounding tones as well as complex overtones simultaneously. Each bowl carries its own voice, and together the bowls create a symphony of healing. The sound waves help to entrain your brain into a meditative state and activate your parasympathetic nervous system which is the rest and digest state where healing and rejuvenation can take place.
Shamanic Drum
The drum is considered a sacred tool and to be the voice of earth in many indigenous traditions. It is said to be a bridge between the conscious and unconscious world. The drum is played in rhythmic patterns, and its steady beat and vibration can induce a trance-like state for the listener. The rhythm of the drum helps us to bypass the thinking brain and allowing the listener to access deeper layers of their consciousness. The drum is grounding and helps you to reconnect with your body, your spirit, and earth itself. When the vibrations move through your body, it helps to restore your balance, clear stagnant energy and awaken your inner wisdom.

Shamanic Rattle
The rattle is one of the oldest ceremonial tools in the world and in shamanic traditions, a rattle is used to cleanse the aura, shift consciousness and to communicate with unseen realms. Its sound is sharp and direct and is perfect for breaking up energetic blockages and restoring harmony to the body and soul. Unlike the grounding beat of the drum, the rhythmic pulse of the rattle lifts and moves energy. As the rattle is moved around and over your body, its sound and vibration begin to stir what’s stuck energetically, emotionally and spiritually and invites clarity, vitality, and renewal.
Native American Flute
In many Indigenous traditions the breath-powered tones of the native american flute symbolises the life force itself. The flute is seen as a sacred voice of the earth, a channel for spirit, and a bridge between the heart and sky. The music is usually improvised and intuitive to the energy in the moment. The sound of the flute speaks directly to the soul, bypassing the analytical mind. The tones of the flute will gently guide you inward, calming the nervous system, softening emotional tension, and opening pathways for healing.
Humming and Mantra
Humming and mantra practices are both sound-based techniques that have been used in spiritual traditions to focus the mind and influence mental and physical well-being. Humming and mantra singing offer a gentle yet potent way to reconnect you with your true essence.
Humming are ancient practices that involve the gently production of a continuous “mmm” sound, often with the lips closed. The humming stimulates the vagus nerve and parasympathetic activation, which leads to relaxation of your body and mind. Humming helps to regulate breath, soothe emotional tension, and bring coherence to your entire system. It’s one of the simplest ways to calm the body and mind.
Mantra practice involves repeating a specific word, phrase, or sound with an intention (such as Om, So Hum, or Om Mani Padme Hum). Mantras can be spoken aloud, whispered, or repeated silently in the mind. Each syllable vibrates at a different level in your body and they carry a vibrational code that align you to a specific energy. Together with a mantras specific intention, the vibration can have profound effect on your physical body, emotion and mind. Mantras are used to focus your attention, quiet your mind and elevate your energies.
Chimes
Chimes are ethereal instruments that provides soft yet powerful harmonies. Their high-frequency vibrations resonate mostly with the upper chakras, especially the heart, throat, third eye, and crown. The experience is deeply meditative and often described as “celestial” or “angelic.” The shimmering tones creates a bridge between the physical and subtle realms, helping you to reconnect with your inner light. Chimes are ideal for energetic clearing, spiritual connection, and emotional release.
